What to Do After Water Damage in an El Mirage Home
First make the scene safe. Then stop the incoming water if you can do so safely, record what happened, and determine whether extraction and drying are needed.
1. Protect people first
Keep clear of standing water near outlets, appliances or an electrical panel. If flooding is coming from outdoors, do not cross moving water or flooded roads. Call emergency services when there is immediate danger.
2. Stop the source when safe
Use an accessible household shutoff for a plumbing leak. If a sewer is backing up, avoid running connected fixtures. If water is entering from the roof or outside, do not climb onto a wet roof.
3. Record the conditions
Photograph the water source, affected materials and rooms before cleanup where safe. Record the time, what you turned off and what you observed.
4. Decide which job is needed
A plumber fixes plumbing. A restoration provider removes water and assesses drying. Storm-entry or roof repairs can be a separate job. Ask whether one company coordinates these.
5. Check concealed moisture
Visible water removal does not prove the wall, carpet pad or cabinet base is dry. Ask how the affected area will be assessed and monitored.
